1940-1950

Inspired by Hollywood starlets, jewels became bigger and bolder and also branched out into gold alloys, due to the dearth of platinum during wartime. Semi-precious stones, such as aquamarine and garnet, were used; unusual motifs such as clowns, ballerinas, cats and bows, became popular.
