Sapphires have long inspired cultures across the globe. In fact the word “sapphire” itself is a result of the jewel’s global reputation. The Sanskrit “sauriratna” became the Hebrew “sapphir” (most beautiful of things) and went through Greek and Latin before arriving at the modern day English “sapphire.” We love sapphire in all it’s permutations (blue, green, violet, yellow, red, orange), and as the sapphire symbolizes sincerity and faithfulness, we feel it’s a very thoughtful and romantic choice for an engagement ring.
Our engagement ring of the week is a vintage sapphire & diamond ring, centering a cushion cut sapphire with ten baguettes & six single cut diamonds all fashioned in platinum. The beautiful blue hue reminds us of the recent spate of rainy day nuptials we’ve seen popping up on some of our favorite wedding blogs. And though it may be a wedding planners nightmare, rain on your wedding day has long been considered a sign of good fortune as it symbolizes blessings, cleansing, unity, and a new day.
In celebration of the changing of the season, the blessing of a rainy day (not only good fortune, but the promise of beautiful flora!), and our timeless sapphire engagement ring of the week, we’ve rounded up some of the most stunning rainy day weddings from around the web for you to enjoy.
A lovely Vancouver to do with steely grey seaside “I dos”.
Dining under the stars, and just a touch of dreamy haze from an early afternoon shower.
A rainy day Seattle affair with a reception that quite literally rocked the boat!
A misty woodland fairytale romance, complete with a cottage worthy of Hansel & Gretel.
And of course, a practically perfect in every way intimate New York wedding at the breathtaking French Beaux-Arts style St. Regis.
