* Engagement Ring of the Week: Autumn a Breath Away

Posted on August 29th, 2012 by Emily. Filed under Advice, Engagement Ring of the Week, Gifts, Weddings.

With autumn just a breath away we are dreaming of amber rays of sunshine and fall brides. There’s something very special about a fall bride – she bridges the gap of gothic winter glam and ethereal summer lightness. And fall weddings have all the magic of an unexpectedly warm day in the middle of October – leaves in fiery reds and oranges, gathering around a bonfire at night, warm mugs of spiked cider clutched in hand.

Art Deco Diamond & Onyx Ring, Old Euro

Our engagement ring of the week is a striking statement piece for the autumn bride who wants to carry the magic of an Indian summer around with her everyday. The Old European cut diamond surrounded by onyx in this Art Deco setting is an unconventional yet timeless choice, as surprising and enchanting as a crisp 75-degree day on the autumnal equinox.

* Engagement Ring of the Week: To splurge, or not to splurge…

Posted on August 17th, 2012 by Emily. Filed under Advice, Engagement Ring of the Week, Weddings.

To splurge or not to splurge, that is the question (when planning a wedding, that is). Our answer? Both! We DO specialize in exquisite antique & estate jewels after all. That being said, we definitely see the value of investing in signature pieces but balancing big-ticket items with DIY touches that are friendlier to the Clare Vivier.

However, “budget” touches do not necessarily mean “bargain bin” looks. When we chose our Engagement Ring of the Week, admiring its unique geometric setting, we were immediately overcome by a vision of femme fatale Dorothy Lamour in some of her smoldering looks from Paramount press photos of the 1930s.

The glimmering paillettes of her jaw dropping gorgeous gowns are reminiscent of the beautiful shapes created by our ring’s Square Emerald cut diamond, which is flanked by eight single cut diamonds in a double marquise design. The gown and ring style are a glittering, geometric, match made in heaven.

But the modern equivalent of a dress that has Hollywood glamour stopping power a la Lamour’s (feast your eyes on this Naeem Khan beauty) may have you looking for some pennies to pinch here and there. Never fear, fair reader, we’ve rounded up some simple DIYs that will infuse any ceremony with a modern take on Hollywood’s golden era – and will still leave a little green in your pocket.

Custom Embossing Letterpress Stamp

Invitations, save the dates, place cards, menus  – of course you want every printed piece to carry a personal touch but embossing and letterpress are incredibly expensive. Add that piece yourself with inexpensive, customizable stamps.

Be dripping in the glamour of the golden era quite literally with these vases hand dipped in gold paint. Good thing these vases only take a few moments to make because you’ll want enough to put on every open surface at your venue filled to the brim with fresh cut blooms.

While the Trocadero of old Hollywood no longer exists, you can bring a little of the French-inspired supper club’s glitz to life with this simple yet stunning fringe chandelier. Draped over tables at a low light, your guests will be transported to another time and feel free to really vamp it up.

What are your thoughts, dear readers? Are you more in the “its a once in a lifetime occasion – lets do it big!” or  the “City Hall with some moderate decadences, please” camp? We hope you’ll tell us in the comments!

Vintage Marquise Brilliant 1.23ct EF SI1 and Two Round Bezel Set Side Ring Plat $9800 Item # 098090R

This week we are featuring a Vintage Engagement Ring centering a Marquise diamond weighing approximately 1.23ct (E-F color, SI1 clarity). The center stone is flanked by bezel set Old European diamonds weighing approximately .50ctw, additionally set with two single cuts weighing approximately .17ctw. and is fashioned in platinum.

The Marquise shape was created for Louis XIV when he asked his diamond cutters to cut a diamond that would be as brilliant and in a form that could match the smile of the Marquise of Pompadour.

This ring is magnificent to say the least and all the Doylerinas are gaga for this stunner. It has all of the makings of the kind of unique pieces that you can find here are Doyle & Doyle. While timeless in style, the setting is distinctive and sophisticated.

The style of this ring is quite comfortable to wear, as it sits low on the hand. Also, the diamonds are bezel set, providing extra security for the setting of the diamonds.

The ring looks superb with a patterned band, however, while the ring won’t sit flush against a wedding band, it could be worn next to one or…

…if you mind the gap (pun intended), you can opt to wear the engagement ring on your right hand leaving your left hand for a wedding band. Also, our eternity rings make great wedding bands and look great stacked together.
